Neil Sturge Condolences
It is with our deepest sorrow that we inform you of the passing of...
The third and final round of the Lincolnshire Junior Swimming League saw Lincoln Vulcans swimmers travel up the A15 to The Pods in Scunthorpe where they competed against 7 other teams from around the county. Going into the gala Vulcans were occupying 4th place in the League, but knew if the team performed at their best moving up to 3rd place was a possibility.
Overall the team put in an excellent performance and were faster in 80% of the races and achieved 3 more victories (11) than in Round 2 showing the progress the swimmers have made. Team spirit on the night was superb with the swimmers showing wonderful support for their team mates.
Vulcans started the night with a victory in the 12/u Medley relay. Annie Johnson got the team off to an excellent start leading the pack followed by Charley Holmes and Niamh Monaghan who extended the lead leaving Holly Marshall to bring it home finishing well ahead of the next team.
Onto the individual races and our first winner was 9 year old Evie Lilley in the 25m Freestyle. Evie had a tough battle with the Louth and North Lincs swimmers but she held on for victory. Next up was Mia Copping in the 50m Butterfly, although a close finish on paper the result was never in doubt. Charley Holmes and Man Kai Au (both pictured) battled to back to back victories their respective 50m Freestyle events. Next up was Mia with her second victory of the night, this time in the 50m freestyle event with another superb swim. Not to be outdone Charley also claimed her second win, powering through on the 50m Breaststroke. Also back in the water for a second win was Evie Lilley in the 25m Butterfly. Vulcans again secured back to back victories in the boys and girls 12yrs 50m Backstroke. First up was Annie Johnson who led after the start and proceeded to swim away from the competition. Lyndon Wilson then produced an excellent performance to win against swimmers a year older then himself.
Vulcans then had one last relay victory. The Girls 12/u team of Holly Marshall, Annie Johnson, Niamh Monaghan & Lilia Burton once again destroyed the field to win by over 6 seconds.
2nd places went to the Girls 11yrs Freestyle relay team (Rhianna Stone, Abigail Chevis, Becca Terry, Mia Copping), Lyndon Wilson (11yrs 50m Back), Man Kai Au (12yrs 50m Fly), Jacob Bailey (10yrs 50m Back), Lyndon Wilson (11yrs 50m Fly), Zara Dixon (10yrs 50m Freestyle), Girls 11yrs Medley relay team (Rhianna Stone, Abigail Chevis, Mia Copping, Becca Terry), Boys 12yrs Freestyle relay team (Man Kai Au, Samesh Kumar, Thomas Hepplestone, Kian Grace-Riches) and the Mixed Cannon Relay Team (Evie Lilley, Archie French, Zara Dixon, Jacob Bailey, Mia Copping, Archie Glenn, Charley Holmes, Man Kai Au).
3rd places went to the Boys 12yrs Medley Relay Team (Lyndon Wilson, Samesh Kumar, Man Kai Au, Kian Grace-Riches), Boys 10yrs Medley Team (Isaac Dennis, Tyler Morris, Jacob Bailey, Archie French), Rhianna Stone (11yrs 50m Back), Holly Marshall (12yrs 50m Butterfly), Tillie-Mae Thompson (10yrs 50m Butterfly), Jacob Bailey (10yrs 50m Butterfly), Archie Glenn (11yrs 50m Freestyle) Samesh Kumar (12yrs 50m Breast), Boys 11yrs Medley Relay Team (Jacob Bailey, Georgi Bashford, Lyndon Wilson, Archie Glenn)
Swimmers not previously mentioned, but also gaining valuable points for the team were Annabelle Wilson, Brooke Hemmings, Lily Crookes, Maisie Ayers, Olivia Holland & Poppy Purbrick.
Fantastic performances throughout the team meant that we were able to leapfrog Grantham into 3rd for Vulcan’s highest placed finish since 2015. Well done to all involved and congratulations to Louth who now go on to represent Lincolnshire in the Northern Final in Blackpool.
