How To Improve Athletic Performance in Swimming

For many people the improvement in athletic performance is achieved by working harder and increasing the numbers of hours training in the pool. Whilst this is true to a point it much better to train smart, and what we mean by this is that you need to understand your body, its limitations, your body imbalances, level of strength and level of fitness.

For example, have you ever been told to be more streamline when swimming or turn your feet out further in Breastroke? The problem is that you currently may not physically be able to do this so no matter how many times you are told you will never achieve it so will only achieved limited improvement.

So what can you do, well you first need to find out the bodies mechanical issues and then put in measures to correct them, only then you are in a position to make significant improvements.

The more we can understand about the body and how it works then the more specific the training can become to enhance performance. You have probably heard of the ‘Marginal Gains’ statement made famous by British Cycling. The whole principle came from the idea that if you broke down everything you could think of that goes into your performance, and then improved it by 1%, you will get a significant increase in overall performance when you put them all together.

This is a great way to look at things and by making the small changes to your own training you will be able to achieve your full potential.

At the Appsolute Sport Centre we are working with Lincoln Vulcans and are dedicated to first analysing the problems you have by undertaking a full body range of motion and strength analysis and then developing a programme which will enhance your normal training.

The centre also offers a specialist treatment sports therapy treatment called Deep Oscillation, whilst this treatment can be used for a wide variety of ailments it is also excellent for increasing blood flow, treating sports injuries and helping improve your range of movement. This combined with a specific exercise programme will assist with the improvement of technique, strength, flexibility and speed. Most importantly a good programme will reduce the chances of injury and overuse, prevention is better than a cure.

The centre offers great discounts to all Lincoln Vulcan members and their families. Anyone interested in a free consultation to discuss individual needs can contact Richard Apps at:
