Nationals Reports

Lincoln Vulcans had six swimmers competing at the British Gas National Championships in July/August 2014; Oliver Brache (18), Abi Burr (15), Lauren Freeman (19), Sophie Hart (12), Tara Haworth (15) and Brad Westlake (19). Between them they competed in 19 events, made 6 semi-finals and 2 finals. All together there were 17 Personal Best swims.

Highlights included Hart, who qualified for the first time at this level as an individual, with PB’s in both of here events. Burr knocked over 9 seconds off her 800m best which was only set a few weeks prior to the event. Haworth and Westlake both showed great resilience throughout the week battling back from illness and injury this season respectively, and ending the year on a high.

Head coach Michael Glossop adds: “To finish the season on such a high provides great foundations to build upon for the new season and we intend to keep striving to improve across all areas”.

Three members of LVSC attended the Welsh National Championships in Swansea as their ‘end of season meet’; Caitlin Aiken (11), George Pinder (13) and Emily Walsh (16). Aiken, still at a young age, can look back on a positive learning experience throughout these championships, competing in 11 events she achieved 6 PB’s. Pinder achieved 1 PB from 3 events whilst Walsh raced in 5 events making the final in 4 of them with 4 PB’s achieved.
