Vulcan Girls go for glory in National Final

Four girls from a Lincoln academy have high hopes of medal success in national swimming championships this weekend.

The Junior Girls team from The Priory Academy LSST are in the finals of the 4x50m freestyle and 4x50m individual medley events at the English Schools Relay Championships in Southampton.

And Tara Haworth, Abigail Burr, Lucy Porter and Gabrielle Vickers boast the fourth fastest qualifying time in freestyle - just one second off top spot.

The IM time posted by Tara (fly), Abigail (breaststroke), Lucy (backstroke) and Gabrielle (freestyle) has put them in 13th place in the qualifying rankings.

The Year 8 and Year 9 girls, all members of Lincoln Vulcans Swimming Club, won both East Midlands regional titles at Daventry in September and will now be up against 15 other teams in the national finals on Saturday.

PE coach Matthew Brown said: “They’ve got a real chance of winning a freestyle medal. We have been looking at turns and takeovers so they can improve their time even further.”
