Having won the first round comfortably, the squad were in good spirits for the second round although wary of the threat placed by a traditionally strong team from Nottingham. With a number of senior swimmers absent, the pressure was on the more junior members to step up to the grade and, in some cases, swim up an age group to compete with swimmers up to 2 years older.

A total of seven victories in the first 10 races set the scene for a fantastic evening of swimming, although with Notts Leander often placing 2nd it was not until the final series of relay races that victory could be assured. Approaching the evening's climax, the Vulcans maintained a small advantage and a stirring team-talk from the club coaches ensured that 6 of the final 8 races resulted in further victories and a final victory margin of 20 points.

Head Coach, Fred Furniss, was delighted with the performance stating "this year's team is proving even stronger than last year's and we are looking forward to the final round and hopefully qualification for another National Final."
