Junior Inter-Counties report

The second annual Junior Inter-County competition took place at the beginning of February, with swimmers from across the County looking to prove their worth against some of the country’s top performers.

Although competing against regions with more developed swimming infrastructures and facilities, Lincolnshire once again proved that when it comes to producing some of the best swimmers in the country we have not lost our touch. Lincolnshire clubs have developed swimmers to Olympic level for over 20 years, despite the lack of international-standard swimming facilities and through only the support of local volunteers and organisations.

With a total of 10 first place finishes and a further 10 second places Lincolnshire finished a close third overall, missing out on second spot by a solitary half-point (due to two competitors finishing with identical times). Lead coach Andy Mason was impressed with the talent and commitment shown by the young swimmers who grew in confidence as the competition progressed and many of whom swam personal best times on behalf of the team. After demanding a top-three finish before the swimming commenced, the bar has now been raised for next year!

Thanks to team managers Tracey Broughton and Matt Easton and to all of the parents who travelled to Luton to support us. Many thanks also to Bedfordshire ASA for a great welcome and well-organised meet.

Lincoln Vulcans swimmers taking part were:
Caitlin Aiken, William Barber, Charlotte Bowker, Dara Clarke, Erin Easton, Callum Hart, Sophie Hart, Zach Peutrill, Grace Wilson, Lauren Woods
